Bölkstoff: Fiction becomes reality
The beer Bölkstoff has its origins in the stories about Werner, a comic character created by Rötger Feldmann. The stories of Werner, who likes to ride Horex, are very popular in Germany. In one of his comics he drew a Horex motorcycle that roars down the streets with four engines. Rötger alias Brösel, who is himself an enthusiastic motorcyclist, has Horex recreate this in order to compete in a race against a Red Porsche. Brösel has this race take place in 1988 on a disused airfield in Hartenholm in Schleswig-Holstein. Over 200,000 fans travel to watch the race and hope that the Bölkstoff beer will be produced for it. Brösel listens to his fans' wishes and brings the Bölkstoff beer from his comics onto the market. Initially, this is produced by the Gilde brewery. But since 2002, production of the Werner beer has taken place in our Flensburg brewery and is finally brewed in Werner's homeland: in Schleswig-Holstein.
This is what Bölkstoff tastes like
The Bölkstoff is brewed in our brewery in Flensburg. The brand owner is Rötger Feldmann, which is why the product is only called Bölkstoff and not Flensburger Bölkstoff. It is bottled in green 0.33 l bottles with a swing top. The glass bottles are embossed with Bölkstoff and a typical Werner "W" sits on the top of the swing top. The swing top preserves our beer's unique freshness. But the Bölkstoff does not open with a FLENS-typical plop', but with a Werner-typical Fump! Inside the swing-top bottle is a tasty Pilsner with 4.8% vol., which is brewed according to the German Purity Law. As is usual for our Pilsner, the Bölkstoff also impresses with its light, slim body and a hoppy bitter note. Because after the Fump! you immediately smell a fragrant portion of hops. On the palate, the Bölkstoff impresses with a strong, spicy bitter note, which is accompanied by the fine sweetness of the malt. If you would like to experience how the Bölkstoff and our other beers are made and bottled, we recommend a tour of our Flensburg brewery. This always ends with a beer tasting and a hearty snack typical of northern Germany.
